Shelter for the vulnerable in Roskilde Ring Park
For Roskilde Municipality in collaboration with the outdoor people
2019-2020
At Køgevej in Roskilde, some groups of vulnerable people have for several years been unwelcome and attempts were made to remove them. Politicians allocated a budget, decided that they should finally have their own place and chose a municipal park 400 metres away from where they have been for over 30 years.
The outdoor people, as we call them, were not immediately interested in moving there.
Our solution to this ethical dilemma was to talk to the group several times about what their needs were regardless of location. Then we looked together at their needs in relation to the new location, and based on that, the vulnerable people themselves decided that the location was suitable. Then the actual design process started, where we defined values and direction for the design.
Among other things, Friluftsfolket wanted the site to be 100% vandal-proof, which is why we chose a container solution that can be completely closed off when not in use. We chose to reflect the architecture of the area with red bricks and red tiles.
We have worked with bridging elements to the other users of the park, e.g. the toilet can also be used by them and by setting up an off. bicycle pump where the outdoorsmen can offer help with bicycle repairs. The outdoor enthusiasts will be responsible for running the site and the toilet and paying for electricity and water.

The residence when it is closed. Users have their own code to open the centre.
